Uniforms & the Scout Shop
A uniform shows a scout belongs, and it's where they proudly wear what they've earned. Here's what to wear, when to wear it, and where to get it.
Before you buy: try our uniform swapFor pack meetings and ceremonies
The official Cub Scout uniform for your scout's rank: shirt, hat, neckerchief and slide, and belt. Scouts wear it to monthly pack meetings, ceremonies, the Memorial Day Parade and other "dress" events. It's where badges and patches go.
Get it: try our uniform swap first, then the Scout Shop or online
For active and outdoor events
Our Pack 137 t-shirt. Scouts wear it for hikes, campouts, service projects and anything messy, where an official shirt could get ruined.
Get it: provided by the pack, usually at no charge
Before you buy anything
Try our uniform swap
Scouts grow fast and move up a rank every year, so pack families pass uniforms along. Swap up: get the shirt size, hat, neckerchief and slide your scout needs now. Swap down: hand in what your scout has outgrown for the next family.
Many families find most of what they need in the swap and only buy a few pieces new. "A Scout is thrifty."
The Class A uniform, rank by rank
Tiger through Webelos wear the same blue shirt; the hat, neckerchief and slide change color each year. Arrow of Light scouts switch to the tan shirt they'll keep in Scouts BSA.

Where the patches go
"Left" and "right" mean your scout's left and right while wearing the shirt. A new shirt usually comes with the U.S. flag already sewn on. Pack 137 families sew on the council patch, the pack number and the den number to start.
Left sleeve
- Patriots' Path Council patch, touching the shoulder seam
- Veteran unit bar, centered just below, if the pack uses one
- Pack numerals 1-3-7, directly below. Tip: stitch the three numerals together first.
Shirt front
- World Crest, centered between the left shoulder seam and the top of the left pocket. A religious emblem knot, if earned, goes centered just above the pocket.
- Rank badges on the left pocket, added as your scout earns them. Your den leader can show the order.
- Arrow of Light badge, centered below the left pocket of the tan shirt
- One temporary patch (a camp or event patch), centered on the right pocket or hung from its button
- Recruiter strip, centered just below the right pocket
Right sleeve
- U.S. flag, touching the shoulder seam
- Den number, directly below the flag
- Journey to Excellence patch, below the den number (the most recent one only)
Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts also wear their adventure colors on the right sleeve.
